Obituary of George R. Munyer
George R. Munyer, 84, of Howell Township died Wednesday, February 20, 2008 at Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township. Mr. Munyer was born in Chicago, Illinois and had resided in Somerville and Bridgewater before moving to Howell Township in 1985. Mr. Munyer was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Medical Detachment of the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and later the 515th Parachute Infantry Regiment during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for exemplary conduct on June 6, 1944 and the Purple Heart Medal, two bronze service arrowheads, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon with four bronze battle stars. His brother, Leonard Munyer, was killed in action during World War II in the Battle of the Bulge. He was predeceased by his cousins with whom he was raised, Geraldine Valentine, Lorraine DiDomenico, and Arthur and Richard Romito. Mr. Munyer was national sales manager for Tenneco Chemicals, Nixon where he was employed for over 30 years until his retirement in 1982. After that he was the executive vice president of Moll International, Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a daily communicant of St. William the Abbot R.C. Church, Howell Township where he served as an usher. He was a loving, caring, and gentle husband, father, and grandfather. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Ann Vettese Munyer; a daughter, Deborah Moroney and her husband Kevin, Howell Township; two sons, Leonard Munyer, Howell Township and George Munyer and his wife Barbara, Damascus, Maryland; and five grandchildren, Michael, Lauren, Kristen, Amanda, and Alyssa. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. William the Abbot Church, Howell Township on Monday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
