Obituary of Matthew Paul MacKenzie

Matthew Paul MacKenzie, 39, of Philadelphia died October 11, 2015 at home. Matthew was born in Havre de Grace, Maryland and was raised in Tennent. He was a graduate of Manalapan High School, Class of 1994, Shippensburg University where he earned a Bachelor of Art Degree, and La Salle University where he earned a Master of Education degree. Matthew was a special education teacher in the School District of Philadelphia for the past six years. Surviving are his wife, Jennifer Rose MacKenzie; his children, Mason and Caroline; his father, Rev. Dr. Hugh A. MacKenzie and his wife Jackie; his mother, Donna J. MacKenzie; two sisters, Melanie Shapiro and her husband Glenn and Amanda MacKenzie and her fiancé Steve Loughran; a nephew and two nieces, Ethan, Scarlett, and MacKenzie; his grandmother, Margaret C. Levine; an uncle and aunt, Ronald and Mary Lou MacKenzie; and an aunt, Louise DeFazio. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN would be appreciated.
