Obituary of Joseph Derevjanik
Joseph Derevjanik, 78, of Freehold entered into eternal rest on March 5, 2008. He was born in Czechoslovakia and came to the United States in 1936. He was a resident of New York prior to moving his family to Freehold Township in 1961. He was employed by Pandick Press, New York City until his retirement. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War receiving a Purple Heart Award. He was a lover of sports and spent many years serving as an umpire and referee in many leagues including the Freehold Babe Ruth League and the Ed Carlton League. As an avid sports fan he loved attending all sporting events of his grandchildren. One of his many joys was seeing his New York Giants win the Super Bowl this year. He was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helen in 1995; a devoted son Glenn in 1992, and an adored sister Mary Davin in 1990. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, Nancy and Jack O’Prandy and Kathy Dorf, all of Freehold; and four grandchildren, Ryan and Jared O’Prandy and Jamie and Christopher Dorf. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold on Monday at 10:30 a.m. followed by entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum, Holmdel Township.
