Obituary of Ida E. Germann
Ida E. Germann, 91, of Freehold Township passed away Thursday, March 20th at Care One, Jackson. She was the widow of Stephen L. Germann, who died in 1992. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Irvin, Paul and Philip Hedden and a sister, Gladys Hahn. I da was born in Irvington to Philip and Elizabeth Hedden.
During the thirties she was a synchronized swimmer with the RCA Water Follies team in Harrison. She and her husband, Steve, worked at the naval base in Seattle, Washington, during World War II. She was a welder and he was a pipefitter. The family moved to Cliffwood Beach in the late 40’s where they owned and operated “The Roost Luncheonette.” Ida and Steve traveled extensively throughout all 50 states and much of Europe then settled in Jackson. She loved the outdoors, the sun on her face, blackjack and bingo.
She is survived by her son Jim and his wife, Adda, her daughter Virginia and her husband, Leo Sekel, all of Jackson, her son John and his wife, Marci, of Freehold, eleven grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Ida was a wonderful mother and grandmother and the last of our family in her generation. In her own words, “I had wonderful life.”
