Obituary of Melvin Leroy Summer
Melvin Leroy Summer, Sr., 78, of Jackson Township died Friday, May 9, 2008 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. Summer was born in Hillside and had resided in Millstone Township for many years before moving to Jackson Township four years ago.
He was a graduate of Hillside High School and had served in the U.S. Navy Reserve Seabees.
He was a 52 year member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local No. 24.
Mr. Summer was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Millstone where he served as a deacon. He was a coach in the Millstone Township Little League and a committeeman for the Boy Scouts of America Troop No. 116, Millstone Township
His wife, Mary A. Palmer Summer, died in 2003.
Surviving are three sons, Melvin L. Summer, Jr. Canyon Lake, California, Kevin C. Summer, New Egypt, and Donald J. Summer and his wife, Cathy, Millstone Township; a granddaughter, Gabriella Mary Summer; his brother-in-laws and sisters-in-law, Richard Palmer, Emma Palmer, Betty and Ed McCabe, George Gilbert, Lorraine Palmer, and Dorothy Summer; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the United Presbyterian Church of Millstone, 211 Millstone Road, Millstone Township on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Gregory J. Pike officiating followed by interment at the church cemetery. Memorial donations to the United Presbyterian Church of Millstone, PO Box 202, Perrineville, NJ 08535 would be appreciated.
