Obituary of Willet Dunham Morey
Willet Dunham Morey passed away peacefully on May 28th, 2008, in San Luis Obispo, California. Dunham was 87. Born in Chazy, New York in 1920, he migrated to Morganville then eventually to Freehold where he lived until moving to California in 2004. Dunham was married to Martha Ash for 53 years and had two daughters, Holly and Nancy.
Dunham graduated from Principia College in 1943 and New York University Graduate School of Business in 1948. He was a sole practitioner CPA for his entire professional life. Dunham was a founding director of Monmouth Capital Corporation and a founding trustee of Monmouth Real Estate Investment Corporation as well as being involved in numerous business and civic activities in and around Monmouth County.
Dunham had an intense commitment to the Freehold Rotary Club where he was past president, received the Paul Harris award and also achieved a 50 year perfect attendance record by attending meetings around the world. He was also a past president and member of the Freehold Exchange Club.
Dunham was an active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist of Freehold and was instrumental in the planning and construction of the current building.
He also served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Dunham loved to garden, travel and especially loved skiing.
Dunham is predeceased in death by his wife, Martha, and daughter Nancy. He is survived by Holly Morey Block, who resides in California with her husband, Marc C. Block, Esq. and two grandchildren Hayley and Lisel and the children of Nancy Mackenzie, Taylor and Tucker, residing in Idaho.
According to his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be a service at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent on Friday, June 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that any gift be a donation to the Freehold Rotary Club Scholarship Fund or the First Church of Christ Scientist, Freehold. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
