Obituary of James T. Carney
James T. Carney, 88, of Freehold Township died Saturday, September 27, 2008 at Care One at Jackson, Jackson Township. Mr. Carney was born in Cohoes, N.Y. and had resided in Freehold for most of his life.
He served in the U.S. Army, 78th Division, known as the Lighting Division, during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was the proprietor of Moore’s Inn, Freehold Township from 1954 to 1978.
He as a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold Township; a member of American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold; a former member of the Freehold Township Lions Club and Richardson Engine Company No. 2 of the Freehold Fire Department; a coach in Freehold Little League and one of the founders of the Freehold Township Little League; and a member of the United States Trotting Association and the Standbred Breeders Association.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Moore Carney; two sons and daughters-in-law, William M. and Robin Carney, Millstone Township and Charles J. and Kim Carney, Cream Ridge; a sister, Margaret Carney, Freehold; and four grandsons, Ryan, Matthew, Morgan, and Taylor.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
