Obituary of Alfred G. Cranmer
Alfred G. “Whitey” Cranmer, 91, of Freehold died Sunday, October 26, 2008 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township. He was born in Bridgeton and had resided in Freehold for over 60 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving the in European Theater of Operations in the 346th Infantry. He was awarded the European- African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and State of New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal for his service. He participated in the Ardennes, Central Europe, and Rhineland campaigns including the Battle of Bulge.
He was an honorary member of the Freehold First Aid Squad and Emergency Squad, a member of Junior Order of Masons, and served with Civilian Conservation Corps.
His wife, Jennie Mae Cranmer, died in 1988.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, former Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad captain and president David G. and Ann Cranmer, Old Bridge Township, William “Larry” and Jill Cranmer, Laurel, Delaware, and Keith H. “Whitey” and Mary Cranmer, Morehead City, N.C.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Victoria C. and Ray Lurch, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and Gail H. and Bob Trojan, Freehold; a brother, Lawrence Cranmer, Millville; two sisters, Eleanor Evergetis, South Carolina, and Judy Fithian, Virginia; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held during the visiting hours at 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to Heart Failure Center at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, 1945 Route 33, Ackerman 3 East, Room 369, Neptune, NJ 07754 or Deborah Heart and Lung Center, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015 would be appreciated.
