Obituary of Higinio Y. Manlulu
Higinio “Gene” Y. Manlulu, 81, of Freehold Township died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 with his family by his side. Born in Calauag, Quezon, The Philippines, Gene came to the United States in 1973 and lived for 11 years in Matawan and 24 years in Freehold. He graduated college at the Mapua Institute of Technology in The Philippines with a degree in electrical engineering and was the first Filipino scholar for a post doctorate degree in nuclear physics at the Universitat of Gottingen in Germany. He was a physics professor for 20 years at Mapua Institute of Technology and three years at Bridgeport Engineering Institute in Connecticut. Gene co-authored a book in college entitled “Progressive Physics” which was used in the school where he taught.
He retired from CECOM Fort Monmouth Department of Defense as an electrical engineer in 1994. He was a communicant and a former choir member of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Gene was well loved by his family and friends. He enjoyed classical music, world travelling with his family, bird watching and doting on his four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he has touched.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Leticia; two daughters and a son, Christine Mata, Catherine Harris, and Constantine Eugene Manlulu; two sons-in-law, Arthur Mata and Christopher B. Harris; four grandchildren, Justine and Patrick Mata, and Melissa and Nathaniel Harris; and two sisters, Avelina Frias and Esther Santa Ana.
He was predeceased by a son, Ernst Dieter; his parents, Jesus, Jr. and Bernardita; three brothers, Augusto, Lorenzo, and Jesus, Jr.; and a sister, Carmelita.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold Township on Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
