Obituary of Harold J. Fichter

Harold J. Fichter, 98, born in Brooklyn, NY on January 9, 1917 passed away on November 7, 2015 in Marlboro, NJ. For 72 years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Jean Fichter (deceased) and long- time resident of Oceanside, NY. He retired from New York Telephone Company in1982, after 45 years. He was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside, NY. Harold is survived by two children, Bob Fichter (wife, Vikki) and BJ Fichter Austin (husband, Gary). Harold was the grandfather of five grandchildren, Michael Austin and Jaclyn Austin Irvine (husband, Matt), Crissy Fichter Valdez, and Rob Fichter (wife, Leah), and Bonnie Duncan (deceased). Harold also had five great-grandchildren; Alec, Jake, and Jenna Valdez and Christopher and Kassidy Duncan. Harold will be remembered as a caring person, a charming gentleman who always made people laugh. As long-time residents in their neighborhood, Harold and his wife were “grandparents” to all the children who grew up there. He loved music, photography, playing games, traveling, fun jokes and using his computer. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday November 14, 2015 at the Colts Neck Reformed Church, 72 County Rd 537, Colts Neck, NJ 07722.
