Obituary of Melvin Steinhandler

Melvin Steinhandler, 69, of Jackson Township died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township. Mr. Steinhandler was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had resided in Marlboro Township before moving to Jackson Township six years ago. He was an educator and guidance counselor for the New York City Public Schools before his retirement. He was a graduate of Brooklyn College where he also earned his Master’s of Science Degree in education. He did his post graduate studies at Fordam University. Surviving are his wife, Catharine Howard Steinhandler; a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn M. Steinhandler and Katherine Kimm; a daughter and son-in-law, Lauren and James Hanley; two brothers, Walter and Eugene Steinhandler; and two grandchildren, Maya and Fiona Hanley. Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the Brooklyn College Alumni Fund or the American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
