Obituary of Elizabeth Searby McLaughin

Elizabeth Searby McLaughin, 85, of Freehold Township died Friday, March 20, 2009 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. McLaughlin was born on Paint Island Spring Road in Millstone Township. She had resided in Freehold from 1960 until 1985 when she moved back to the home where she was born. She had lived in Applewood Estates in Freehold Township for the past six months. She was a court clerk at the Monmouth County Court House, Freehold for the Honorable Benedict Nicosia before her retirement in 1980 after having served Monmouth County for over 33 years. She was a graduate of the Upper Freehold High School in 1942. She served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1943 to 1946. Mrs. McLaughlin was a charter member of the National Women Marine’s Association in 1960 and served as secretary, vice president, and president of the New Jersey Detachment of the Women’s Marine Association. She was a member of the Philip A. Reynolds Detachment, Marine Corps League; American Legion Post No. 54, Freehold; Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Rose of Lima No. 737, Freehold; Millstone Township Ladies Auxiliary of CentraState Medical Center; and Fifty Plus Class Reunion Committee of Allentown High School. Her husband, Albert J. McLaughlin, Sr., died in 2000. She was predeceased by her parents, Van Houton and Helen Krapp Searby; and four brothers, Robert W., Sr., Frederick V., George, and Joseph Searby. Surviving are a stepson, Albert J. McLaughlin, Jr. and family, his wife Susan, children, Lisa, Jennifer, and Albert Joseph McLaughlin, III, and grandchildren, Robert, Rebecca, Brandon, Sean, and Amy; a sister Lillian E. Noreika; and many nieces and nephews. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. American Legion services will be held at 7:15 p.m. and Marine Corps League services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation to CentraState Healthcare Foundation, 916 Route 33, Suite 6, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
