Obituary of Robert Haynes Bess
Robert Haynes Bess, 71, of Asbury Park passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009 at Chapin Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Red Bank after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Robert was born on October 8, 1937 in Vernon, Florida and was reared in Freehold. He also resided in Woodbury prior to moving to Asbury Park. He was educated in the Freehold Public Schools graduating from Freehold High School, Class of 1956. After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for four years.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force Robert worked for the Garden State Parkway and was last employed with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier. Robert was predeceased by his wife, Martha Murphy Bess; his parents, stepfather William Frank Haynes and mother Lola Pompey Haynes; and a brother, Wade Green.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son Robin Bess and his wife Theresa, Martinez, Georgia; a daughter, Michele Brown, Tallahassee, Florida; two brothers, Joseph Haynes, Freehold and William Frank Haynes, Jr., Dover; four sisters, Ellen Goode, Tinton Falls, Ida Wright, Freehold, Mary Booker, New Brunswick, and Pequoia Evans, Winterville, N.C. ; and eight grandchildren, Courtney, Marcus, Breana, Carshell, Carlyle, Careall, Carl, Jr., and Zechariah.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday, April 3, 2009 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00 a.m.
