Obituary of George F. Sauerwein
George F. Sauerwein, 92, died April 21, 2009 at home, surrounded by his family. Mr. Sauerwein was born and raised in Trenton. He was a graduate of Cathedral High School, Trenton and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel Institute of Technology, Philadelphia, PA. He resided in Eatontown for many years, raising his family, until he retired in 1986 from Department of the Army, Fort Monmouth.
He was a Past Exalted Ruler of the Eatontown B.P.O.E Lodge No. 2402., Past President of the Eatontown Lions Club, and a member of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus, Freehold.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Lelio Sauerwein and his second wife, Irene Pietruszak Sauerwein.
He is survived by his son, George F. Sauerwein, III and his girl friend, Laura Breen of Freehold, his daughter, Barbara Sadowski of Pennsauken, his daughter Gina Petillo and her husband Robert of Colts Neck, his grandchildren, Victoria Amper, Jenene Watson and her husband Ben, Jennifer Petillo, Lori Missig and her husband David, his great grandchildren, Madeleine Amper and Ella Watson. He is also survived by his step children, Carl Werner and his wife Eileen, William Werner and his wife Janice, Therese Lannon and her husband Matthew, his step grandchildren, Dominique Fiegel and her husband Jamie, Jessica Lannon, Serge and Julia Werner and his step great grandchildren Peter James and Ann Gretchen Fiegel.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24th. A funeral mass will be held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25th from St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Interment will be at Sunset View Memorial Gardens, Woodstock, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Meridian Hospice, Monmouth Shores Corporate Park, 1340A Campus Parkway, Neptune, NJ 07753
