Obituary of Morton Ruden

Morton Ruden, 85, of Monroe Township passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Paterson and had resided in Fair Lawn for over 30 years before moving to Monroe Township 22 years ago. He was a decorated U. S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Ruden was a career education coordinator for the State of New Jesey Department of Education, Wood Ridge before his retirement. He was a member of the Concordia Golf Club; a published author; and a Bergen County Democratic Party leader. Surviving are his wife, Shirley Shafron Ruden; two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Charlotte Ruden and Dr. Richard and Wendy Ruden; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Abe Opatut; a sister, Jessie Katz; a brother-in-law, Marvin Shafron; five grandchildren, Eric, Rachel, and Jacob Ruden, Sarah Beth Rubin and her husband Dr. Jason Rubin, and Peter Opatut and his wife, Dr. Alene Opatut; and two great grandchildren, Jake Rubin and Jordyn Opatut. Graveside services will be at the Passaic Hebrew Independent Benevolent Association Cemetery, Saddle Brook on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. Shiva will be observed at the Ruden residence through Friday. Memorial donations may be made to your favorite charity. The Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
