Obituary of Laura Rebecca nee Thorp Mounts

Laura Rebecca Mounts (nee Thorp), 88, of Colts Neck passed away peacefully Saturday, November 28th at the CentraState Medical Center, Freehold, NJ, due to complications from a fall. Born May 1927 on her family’s farm in Burdett, NY she was the youngest of six children. As a child she walked to school every day, attending Dist. #16’s One Room Schoolhouse. After graduating from Watkins Glen High School, Laura attended Rochester Business Institute. Upon receiving her degree she began her career as an office manager for various law firms. After relocating to Miami, FL, Laura met her future husband, Frank, who was stationed on a nearby Air Force Base. The loving couple eloped eight months later in Pascagoula, Mississippi, and had a wonderful life and loving marriage for 61 years during which they raised their four children. The family moved to Colts Neck in 1966 from Murray Hill, NJ as a result of her husband’s job transfer while working as a Scientist for Bell Telephone Laboratories. Laura was a kind and giving woman. She put everyone else’s needs before her own. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. After her first child was born she unselfishly devoted her life to her husband and children. Laura was predeceased by her parents Jay and Bessie Thorp, five siblings, her husband Frank W. Mounts, and her son Frank V. Mounts. She is survived by her three loving daughters: Rebecca Mounts of Colts Neck, NJ, and companion, Rodman Middleton, Darlene Feldman of Colts Neck, NJ and Laura Bonavita and her husband Judge August Bonavita of Jupiter FL, her cherished grandchildren Julia Bonavita and Christopher Hambleton and his wife Cassandra of Millville, NJ, and her great-grandson Liam Hambleton. Laura will be sadly missed and never forgotten. A private memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later date for immediate family members. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Laura’s memory to the Volunteer, Colts Neck First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 21, Colts Neck, NJ 07722
