Obituary of Alexander Petroff

Alexander Petroff, 87, of Freehold Township went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in New York City and had resided in Freehold Township since 1938. Mr. Petroff was a plant maintenance supervisor for Carter Wallace, Cranbury for 18 years before his retirement 22 years ago. He previously worked at the A.&M. Karagheusian Rug Mill, Freehold and as a lumber salesman. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. An avid carpenter, Mr. Petroff built several homes, including his own and those of his sons. He was a long time member of the Evangelical Baptist Church, Freehold Township. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Ann Nichiporuk Petroff; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Raymond Mele; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Elaine Petroff, David and Beth Petroff, and Gregory and Holly Petroff; a brother, Paul Petroff, a sister, Elizabeth Karoll; and seven grandchildren, Elizabeth, Alexandra, and Julianne Mele, Catharine, Caroline, Emily and Nicholas Petroff. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
