Obituary of Doraine Joyce Rankine

Doraine Joyce “Dee” Rankine, 79 of Freehold Township died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at the Specialty Hospital at Monmouth, Long Branch. Born in Syracuse, New York, she lived in Washington, D.C. prior to moving to Freehold Township 36 years ago. Ms. Rankine was an administrative assistant for the County of Monmouth, Freehold, retiring four years ago. Prior to that, she was employed by the Prudential Insurance Company, Newark. While in Washington, D.C., she worked for Senator Adam Clayton Powell; the Urban League, and Senator Hubert Humphrey. She received a Bachelor’s Degree from Howard University, Washington, D.C. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Freehold. She was also a member of the Monmouth County Business and Professional Women’s Club; the Red Hat Ladies Society; and was active with the Monmouth County Cotillion. She was predeceased by her parents, Alton and Katherine Taylor Washington; and her sister, Barbara Bell. Surviving are a son, Sean Loyd Rankine, West Hollywood, California; and a sister, F.A. Washington, Syracuse, New York. Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday, August 3, 2009 at 7:00 P.M. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 6:00 P.M. until service time. Interment will be held privately in Syracuse, New York.
