Obituary of John Buff Kip
John Buff Kip, 85, of Freehold died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Bartley Healthcare Nursing and Rehabilitation, Jackson Township. He was born in the Ardena section of Howell Township and had resided in the Freehold area all his life.
He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 141st Ordnance Battalion in the Philippines and New Guinea. His unit celebrated their 60th reunion in Ocean City last year.
Considered a pillar of the First United Methodist Church, Freehold he was a member since 1951, the year he married his beloved wife. He served as a Lay Leader, Sunday School superintendent, teacher, greeter, usher, and visitation volunteer.
He was a graduate of Freehold High School, Class of 1941 where he was a member of the debating team which enabled him to see all sides of any issue throughout his life.
John never met a man he did not like and was famous for his many stories, his open mind, lifelong love of learning, child-like wonder and always sweet disposition.
A son, Lawrence G. Kip, died in 1986. He was also predeceased by a brother, Henry C. Kip, in 1991.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Louise Shamagasi Kip; a daughter, Luanne S. Kip, Point Pleasant; a sister, Lois Borden, Freehold; a brother-in-law, Edward Shamagasi, Freehold; a niece, Ruth Hanna and her family; a nephew, William Hook and his family; and a nephew, Carl Borden and his family.
Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Freehold on Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the First United Methodist Church, 91 West Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
