Obituary of Katherine Emily Miller Thomson

Katherine Emily Miller Thomson, 96 who was known as Mildred, Midge, and Kathy, of Manalapan Township entered eternal rest on October 3, 2009 at home. She was born in Leicestershire, N.Y. and had resided in Manalapan Township for the past 14 years. Katherine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, a wonderful support and encourager of her family, and a caregiver for family and others who needed her care. She enjoyed crossword and find the word puzzles, and was an avid Pokeeno player who enjoyed winning and being called “grandma” by all the other players. Katherine was a member of the First Baptist Church, New Hartford, N.Y. where she served as a deacon, soloist, and a member of the church choir and Alpha Delta Circle for many years. She attended the Old Tennent Presbyterian Church since moving to Manalapan Township. She was predeceased by her parents, Benjamin B. and Louise Amelia Gatzler Woodard; her first husband, William Albert Miller, and her second husband, James Thomson; and her sons, Norman Ralph Miller, James William Thomson, and Robert John Thomson. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Esther Miller; a daughter, Beverly Barron; two daughters-in-law, Barbara Thomson and the Rev. Dierdre L. Thomson with whom she lived; 26 grandchildren including those who cared for her in her final days, Elizabeth Puskas and husband Frank, Jeanne Vandevander and husband, William, Laura Burke, and husband Edward, Jr., and James E. Thomson; and 47 great grandchildren including her caregiver Johnanna Timmerman; and five great-great grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.. A Service of the Resurrection will be held at Old Tennent Presbyterian Church on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m., the Rev. Barbara McDonald officiating, followed by interment at the Old Tennent Cemetery.
