Obituary of Sergei Kanevsky
Sergei “Serge” Kanevsky, 77, of Manalapan Township, died Thursday, October 22, 2009 at Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills. Born in the Bronx, New York, he lived in the Jackson Heights section of Queens, and Puerto Rico prior to moving to Manalapan Township 42 years ago.
Mr. Kanevsky was a professional engineer for French & Parrello Associates, P.A., Holmdel, for 12 years, retiring eight years ago. He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers, the American Military Engineering Society, B.O.C.A., and several other professional organizations.
He was a former coach for Manalapan Township Little League, and was a commissioner and youth coach for the Manalapan Township Basketball League. He was also an umpire for the Manalapan Township Men’s Softball League. He was inducted into the Manalapan Township Sports Hall of Fame. An avid Yankee fan, he had many hobbies and interests including collecting baseball cards, pins, coins and stamps.
He loved nature and had many fond memories of his days as a camper at Camp Wochica, and as a counselor at Surprise Lake Camp. As a child, he spent many hours at the Bronx Zoo. He enjoyed journaling his travels with Roberta and meticulously chronicled the life of his family and friends with photographs. He was a gentle and devoted husband, father, grandfather and uncle.
He was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Rose Abromovitz Kanevsky; and a brother, Otto Kane.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta Davidoff Kanevsky; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Heidi Kanevsky, Manalapan Township, and Ronald and Christina Kanevsky, Bridgewater; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Kirk Migdal, Fairlawn, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Howard and Scott Kanevsky, Lindsay, Spencer and Abigail Migdal.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 12:30 P.M. at Beth Israel Mausoleum, Woodbridge. Donations in his memory can be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, NJ 07702 or Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015. Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
