Obituary of Thomas M. Perrine

Thomas M. Perrine affectionately known as “Tommy”, 88, of Freehold died on Saturday, November 7, 2009 after a brief illness. Born in East Freehold he lived his entire life in Freehold. Tom served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He received the Purple Heart Award after being wounded in Okinawa during operations against enemy forces. Tom was a dedicated exempt member and former engineer of Richardson Engine Company No. 2 of the Freehold Fire Department for 60 years where he was an ex-captain. He served as Chief of the department from 1970-1972, was a member of the New Jersey State Fire Chief’s Association, and a life member of the New Jersey State Firemen’s Association. He was a proud member of the Philip A. Reynolds Detachment Marine Corps League. He was a member of the Reformed Church of Freehold. Tom retired in 1978 after working for M&S Oil Company of Freehold for 20 years as a mechanic in the service department. Along with his buddy Bill Biddle he enjoyed hunting and traveled throughout the United States and Canada throughout the years. Mr. Perrine was married to his loving wife, the former Dorothy “Dot” Kingston for 63 years. They resided in their home in Freehold for most of those years where the doors were always open to relatives, friends, and neighbors to enjoy a barbecue or just a good time. He is also survived by his brother in-law Austin “Buddy” Kingston and his wife Johanna of Freehold; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be on Tuesday 2:00 and 4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm at the Higgins Memorial Home 20 Center Street Freehold. There will be a Firemen’s service Tuesday evening 7:15 p.m. followed by a service by the Marine Corps League at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Chris Jacobsen officiating. The interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.
