Obituary of James R. Mclaughlin

James R. “Jimbo the Jersey Torch” a/k/a “Hollywood” McLaughlin, Sr., 58 of Englishtown, died Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune Township. Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong Englishtown resident. Mr. McLaughlin was an auto mechanic for the Manalapan Township Public Works Department. He was the founder of the Lost in the 50’s Car Club; and his lifelong enjoyment was his family and his cars, and he used his talent and hobbies to raise awareness and money for local charities, especially the Ronald McDonald House, Long Branch. He was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude Brown McLaughlin in 1991; and his first wife, Gail C. Fredericks McLaughlin in 1982. Surviving are his wife, Helen Marie Riggleman McLaughlin; three sons, James R. Jr. and Jesse James Mclaughlin, both of Jackson Township, and James R. McLaughlin, III, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; three daughters, Gail C. McLaughlin, Englishtown, Patricia A. Dooley and her husband Jason, Old Bridge, and Michelle M. Brandes, Farmingdale; his father, George McLaughlin, Jr., Englishtown; a brother, George McLaughlin, III, Manalapan Township; two sisters, Bonnie Handwerk, Spotswood, and Joyce Suydam, Englishtown; seven grandchildren; and five great grand puppies. Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at 6:00 P.M. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 P.M. until service time.
