Obituary of John D. Kohlmann
John D. Kohlmann, 92, of Freehold Township, died Thursday, Feb. 4 at home. Born in Staten Island he moved to Freehold in 1985. Mr. Kohlmann owned and operated Kohlmann's Flowers at 225 Victory Boulevard, Staten Island for 40 years. He retired in 1983 and moved to Freehold thereafter. During his retirement he loved to host his family with backyard barbeques and tend to his flower beds surrounding his home. His friendly and loving manner will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Kohlmann received a two year degree from Cornell University in Horticulture. Afterward he served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater on New Caledonia and later as a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. as Port Commander in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
He was predeceased by this beloved wife, Ruth, in 2002. He is survived by three sons, John D. Kohlmann Jr. and his wife Virginia of Pensacola, FL; Russell A. Kohlmann and his wife Mary of Manalapan and Roger F. Kohlmann and his wife Barbara of Staten Island and 7 grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY at 10:00 a.m. Anyone wishing to memorialize Mr. Kohlmann is requested to make a donation to the charity of their choice in his honor. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
