Obituary of Rose M. Norton

Rose M. Norton, 92, of Freehold Township passed away on Friday, February 12, 2010 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Rose was born in the Bronx, New York on February 13, 1918 and grew up in New Dorp Staten Island where she met her beloved husband William Norton, a friend of her brother Anthony Leone, whose car broke down in her driveway. The two were wed on February 8, 1942 and chose to begin raising their family in Staten Island. Rose graduated from New Dorp High School, Staten Island New York and worked her way through business school as a cashier at the New Dorp Lane Theater. She gave up her aspirations as a career business woman by choosing to raise her family and become a homemaker. As her children grew, Rose continued her compassionate care for people by becoming a care giver to countless neighborhood children now adults that still refer to her as “Grandma” and to the elderly in the community. Rose is survived by; three daughters, eldest Doreen, Donna, Debbie, son, William Jr. and three grand children, Cassandra, Jessica and Alex. The Norton Family would like to extend their profound appreciation to Doctors Lesile Sojka and Mark Rosenbloom for their continuous care over the years. And most recently to Doctors Jatinchandra Patel, John Covalesky and the medical team of CentraState’s 5th floor North Nursing Station who cared for our mother, Rose in her final weeks. Viewing services will be held at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday February 21 from 2pm to 6pm. A funeral service to be held Monday February 22 beginning at 10:00am will be held at the Memorial Home prior to her entombment at Holmdel Mausoleum, Holmdel Township where she will joining her beloved husband William Sr. who passed August 11, 2005.
