Obituary of William F. Vogel

William F. Vogel of Freehold, died February 28, 2010 at The Manor, Freehold Township. He spent 25 years in the United States Air Force retiring as a Major. He was a pilot during World War II, Korea and Vietnam, flying 6,000 hours in F-51s, T-33s, F-86s, F-84s RB66s, C-130 and numerous other aircrafts. He was awarded an Air Medal, 5000 hour Flying Safety Award and numerous campaign ribbons. After retirement, Major Vogel was employed by Colts Neck Board of Education as Transportation Coordinator from 1970-1985. During this period, he was elected President of New Jersey Transportation Supervisors for two years. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church and the church handbell choir and a member of American Legion Post No. 54, both of Freehold. He is survived by his wife, Ruth, three children, Clifford of California, Dorianne Metz of Mount Laurel and Geralyn Myers of Odessa, Texas and a sister MaryAnne Loschin of Florida. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral mass will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold. Interment will be private for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Research will be appreciated.
