Obituary of Joan Moroney
Joan Moroney, 84, of Freehold Township died Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Moroney was born in The Bronx and had resided in Freehold Township since 1966.
Mrs. Moroney was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold where she served as a trustee, Eucharistic minister, RCIA and Pre-Cana leader, and religious education teacher. She was a former member of Holy Spirit Church, the Bronx where she was a Pre-Cana leader and a member of the Christian Family Movement of the Archdiocese of New York.
Mrs. Moroney was a president of St. Rose of Lima School Parent Teacher Association, St. John Vianney High School Parent Teacher Association, and the Holy Spirit School Mother’s Club. She was an enthusiastic bridge player.
Her husband of 56 years, Thomas J. Moroney, Jr., died in 2004. A son, Dennis Moroney, died in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001.
She was an extraordinary person and caring friend. A loving mother and grandmother, she taught by example.
Surviving are six sons, Thomas III, and his wife Georgiann, Michael and his partner Albert de Fressine, Kevin and his wife Deborah, Brian and his wife Teresa, J.P. and his partner Robert Reilly and Patrick; a daughter-in-law, Nancy; a sister-in-law, Margaret J. Moroney; and eight grandchildren, Thomas J. IV, Liam, Brian Jr. and his wife Jessica, Caitlin, Elizabeth, Timothy, Connor, and Megan.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery. Memorial donations to St. Rose of Lima Church, 16 McLean Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of the church would be appreciated.
