Obituary of Alice Olsen White
Alice Olsen White, 91, of Freehold, formerly of Long Branch entered eternal life while she slept on June 9, 2010 at her home in Freehold. Alice was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on December 25, 1918, Alice lost her mother four days later and was raised by foster mother, Irene Olsen whose loving guidance developed Alice into the person she became. Irene was aunt to Arnold White who was Alice’s husband for over 50 years.
An accomplished seamstress, Alice entered the garment industry at the age of 18 and remained there unit she retired in 1981.
Alice belonged to several social groups, attended Old Tennent Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is predeceased by her husband, Arnold White, a son, Roger White, mother, Alice Newman Love, foster mother, Irene Olsen, sisters, Gladys Popok, Julia Dennison, Gertrude Clayton, and brother, Adolph Olsen.
Surviving are daughter Joyce White-Phillips, grandson, David Phillips and his fiancée Linda Wexler, aunt Agnes Baldwin and son Robert Baldwin; niece Dianm Boms and her children Laura Fallon and family and Brian Boms, and family; and several great nieces and nephews. Special friends include Mary DeSheplo, Barbara Varga Lambert who Alice called “my second other daughter” and Grammy’s two little furry buddies, Rascal and Tasha, who she loved dearly.
All who knew this kind loving, gentle woman will miss her greatly. “Rest in Peace, Alice as we will always cherish our memories of you, and the times we have spent together.”
Visitation will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday, June 13, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 14, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Oceanport. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in Alice White’s memory to a favorite charity.
