Obituary of Miriam Katz Somer

Miriam Katz Somer, 70, of Monroe Township died June 21, 2010 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick after a long bout with cancer. Miriam was born on October 9, 1939 in Hightstown, NJ to Alice and Ben Katz of Etra. Miriam received her undergraduate degree in Nursing at University of Pennsylvania and her Master's Degree from Adelphi University. She had a lifelong career in Nursing in both administrative and consultative capacities. Miriam is survived by her husband Joel Somer, her daughter Pamela and and son-in law Louis, her daughter Ilyssa, her son Bruce and daughter-in-law, Cindy; her siblings, Roseanne and Menachem Mintz, Elaine and husband Jack Meckles and Saul and Mimi Katz; her six grandchildren: Alexander Pagan, Abigail Pagan, Benjamin Pagan, Camryn Pagan, Jacob Somer, and Samantha Somer, Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. followed by interment at Beth Abraham Cemetery, East Brunswick. Shiva will be held for one week at the residence of Joel Somer in Monroe, NJ. Memorial donations for esophageal cancer research care of the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
