Obituary of Elizabeth Guy

Elizabeth “Betty” DuBois Guy, 90, of Freehold went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 7, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Guy was predeceased by her parents, Eliza Statesir DuBois and John Stanley DuBois, and one sister. She was also predeceased by her husband, Robert D. Guy in 2005 and one grandson, Terry R. Guy, Jr. in 1995. Prior to her death, Mrs. Guy was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church of Freehold where she served as a deaconess and sang in the choir. Mrs. Guy was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and an honored member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. One of her favorite pastimes was watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports and she will fondly be remembered as the unofficial scorekeeper at their ball games. She volunteered at CentraState Medical Center, enjoyed knitting and donating baby caps, and was a member of the Stitchers sewing group that made bed pads for veterans’ homes. She supported her late husband and Monmouth Hose Fire Company by selling Easter raffle tickets for many years at Olde Monmouth Candies. Mrs. Guy instilled her spirit of volunteerism and helping others in her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Guy is survived by her daughter, Judith A. Guy, Freehold, and two sons, Terry R. Guy, Sr. and his wife Nancy, Pequea, PA, and Glenn G. Guy and his wife Jill, Freehold, and four grandchildren, Cynthia Woodworth and her husband Scott, Michael Guy and his wife, Jeni, Christopher Guy, and Andrew Guy. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren, Sierra, Jessie, Talia, Dustin and Nicholas, with two more due to arrive within the month. Her family will receive friends at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Wednesday, August 11 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service celebrating her life will be on Thursday, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church, West Main St. & Manalapan Ave., Freehold.
