Obituary of Donald H. Walker

Donald H. “Joe” Walker, 93, of Matawan, lovingly remembered to some as “Uncle Don”, on August 17, 2010 joined his beloved family members who have gone to the House of Our Lord. Uncle Don was born at home at in Matawan and was baptized therein. As a youth he was a member of Boy Scout Troop No. 147. He also developed an acute interest in roving circus attractions, a hobby which endured all through his life. He was a graduate of Matawan High School, Class of 1937 and was a member of the first football team. Don volunteered for service during World War II and served in the European theater being honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in 1945. Uncle Don was a lifelong member of Midway Hose Company, Matawan; one of the great achievements of his life. His genealogy spans many generations in the local area. He was proud of his heritage, but most proud of his service to his Country and as a volunteer fireman. Uncle Don you were loved. You will be missed. Graveside services will be held at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Memorial donations to any veterans of foreign wars organization would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
