Obituary of Harry R. Shakespeare
Harry R. Shakespeare, 95, of Freehold Township died Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at home. Mr. Shakespeare was born in Staten Island, N.Y. He was originally from the Westerleigh section of Staten Island and had resided in the Huguenot section of Staten Island before moving to Freehold Township 44 years ago.
Mr. Shakespeare was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He had attended Manhattan College, New York City.
He was a lieutenant for the Fire Department of New York, assigned to Engine Company No 157, Staten Island, and served for over 35 years before his retirement. He was a professional drummer; also a pianist and organist; and a former barbershop quartet singer and member of the Freehold Fire Department Band.
He was predeceased by a brother, Bill Shakespeare, who was an All-American football player at the University of Notre Dame.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Madory Shakespeare; two sons, Edward and Dave Shakespeare; and three grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn, Laura Jeanne, and Craig Russell Shakespeare.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, August 28 at the Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold, followed by entombment at Maplewood Chapel Mausoleum, Freehold.
