Obituary of Martin Wilfred McGrath

Martin Wilfred McGrath, 80, of Manalapan Township died September 9, 2010 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mr. McGrath was born in New York City and had resided in Manalapan Township for the past 45 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Mr. McGrath was a securities trader for First Boston Corporation, New York City before his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Thomas More R.C. Church, Manalapan Township, a member of the Yorktowne Club, a volunteer for the Freehold Community Players, and a former Little League baseball coach in Manalapan Township and New York City. A devoted husband, father, and grandpa, Marty lived life fully, laughed whole heartedly, and loved unconditionally. Marty was an avid Ranger and Yankee fan, a lover of music-especially country. Willie Nelson was a favorite; vacations at the Jersey Shore; acting in community theater, and Atlantic City. If you knew Marty, you knew there weren’t many strangers in this world, simply friends he hadn’t yet met. His wife, Anne McGrath, died in 2005. He was also predeceased by two brothers, John and Timothy McGrath. Surviving are seven sons, Michael McGrath , Toms River, Martin McGrath and his wife, Antonia, Barnegat, Kevin McGrath and his wife Susan, Manalapan Township, Brian McGrath, Manalapan Township; Steven McGrath, Miami Beach, Florida, Gregg McGrath, Manalapan Township, and Thomas J. McGrath, Plainfield; two daughters, Kelley McGrath, Manalapan, and Anne Marie Wright and her husband, Robert, Brick Township; and eight grandchildren, Allyson, Colin, Ashlee, Kevin, Megan, Elizabeth, Kyle, and Kaylee. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Thomas More R.C. Church, 186 Gordon’s Corner Road, Manalapan Township on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to the American Heart Association or the Disabled American Veterans would be appreciated.
