Obituary of John J Byk

John J. Byk, 89, of Freehold Township died Monday, September 13, 2010 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Howell Township and had resided in Freehold most of his life. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II. Before his retirement, he was president of Cagney and Byk, a heating oil delivery and service company in Freehold Township and later in Tennent. Mr. Byk was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold where he served as an usher. He was a member of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus, Azalea Society, and Polish National American Society, and a Boy Scout Troop leader. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anna Byk, a brother, Edward Byk, and two sisters, Lillian Cottrell and Sophie Snodgrass. He is survived by a brother, Peter P. Byk and several generations of nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
