Obituary of Mary C. D'Eufemia

Mary C. D’Eufemia (born Maria C. Ciccone) died at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on September 29, 2010. She was born on June 12, 1931 in Afragola, Italy near Naples. As a young child, she immigrated via Ellis Island where she lived in the Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx. She graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School where she met her beloved husband, Raymond M. D’Eufemia who predeceased her in 1977. She worked as a secretary in Manhattan and then started a family before moving to Freehold Township in 1962. Mrs. D’Eufemia worked at Christie Engineering in Freehold and the became a long time employee at Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital where she helped patients and families apply for social security disability benefits. She retired in 1996 after many years there. She was a longtime member of the Freehold Township Welfare Board and a member of the Italian American Amici Club. She was a wonderful cook and relished the opportunity to share her delicious dishes with others. She was a cherished friend and confidant to many who knew her as Mrs. D and Aunt Mary, whether they were related to her or not. In addition to the passing of her husband, Ray, she was predeceased by her daughter Susan Marie Fedor of Marlboro, NJ. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa D’Eufemia Williams of Brookline, MA, her son, Stephen M. D’Eufemia of Louisville, KY, her sister Caroline Caglianone of Briarcliff Manor, NY, her brother, Vincent J. Ciccone, VA. her longtime friend Rita Lonky, along with her 7 cherished and loving granddaughters, Kristin and Ashley Fedor of Marlboro, Angela, Elise and Maria D’Eufemia and step granddaughter, Carol Fields of Louisville and Hannah D. Williams, Brookline,. Her many nieces and nephews, cousins and many longtime friends survive her. Mary will live in our hearts always. She was one of a kind and beloved by all. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery. Memorial donations to American Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
