Obituary of William J. Rooney

William J. Rooney, 92, of Freehold Township died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. Mr. Rooney was born in Jersey City and had resided in Freehold Township since 1963. Mr. Rooney was U.S. Navy commander who served during World War II and the Korean War and later in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was a captain for Pan American Airlines before his retirement. He was a communicant of St. Robert Bellarmine R.C. Church, Freehold Township. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Whelan Rooney; a son and daughter-in-law, William J. and Margarita Rooney; and a granddaughter, Elizabeth Rooney. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Saturday from 9:00 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a prayer service at the funeral home. Entombment will be held at Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington.
