Obituary of Bernard D. McKenna
Bernard D. Mc Kenna, 76, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. passed away on Sunday, November 14, 2010 after a brief illness.
Bernie was born on June 3, 1934 in Newark, NJ., son of the late Bernard James and the late Bridie(Sheehan) Mc Kenna. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He had been an owner, driver and trainer of standardbred horses. After retiring from training he became the first valet at the Meadowlands Raceway Driver's Room where he worked for 25 years. After retiring he moved to Myrtle Beach.
Bernie was an avid Giant and Devils fan. He cherished his grandchildren and was proud of all of their individual accomplishments. He was a member of the N.J. SBOA, and the Freehold, N.J. Elks.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth.
Survivng are his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Wish) Mc Kenna, his six children and their spouses; Debbie (Ted) Burke, Barbara Jean Newmiller, Bernard (Audrey) Mc Kenna, Patrick (Adrianna), Chris (Joanna) Mc Kenna, and Brian (Ginna) Mc Kenna; a sister, Kathleen Voss and a brother, Michael (Maria) Mc Kenna; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 4th at Higgins Memorial Home 20 Center Street, Freehold, N.J. from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
