Obituary of Lawrence S. Petrula

Lawrence S. Petrula, 64, of Freehold Township died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in New York City and was a lifelong resident of Freehold. He was a construction manager for New York City School Construction Authority, New York City. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold. Larry was a graduate of St. Rose of Lima School, Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft, and New Jersey Institute of Technology where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering. Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Allen Petrula; two sons, Michael and his wife Kim and John Petrula; a daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne Ellen Howlett and her husband Jason; all of Freehold; a sister, Margaret Bradley Colts Neck Township; four grandchildren, Michael, Benjamin, Connor and Rylee; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John Allen, South Carolina, Debra and Dennis Bell, Cindy and Mike DiBenedetto, Jeff Allen, all of Freehold, Betty and Art Sullivan, Delaware, and Lori and Hugh O’Neill, Freehold; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Fire company services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the funeral home on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. followed by interment at the parish cemetery.
