Obituary of John Joseph Belz

John Joseph Belz, 65, of Millstone Township died suddenly on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was raised in Colonia. He was a graduate of Kean University where earned his Bachelor and Master Degrees. He was a charter member and past president of Nu Delta Pi Fraternity. Mr. Belz worked in the Woodbridge School District for over 35 years. He began his career as a physics teacher and earned recognition as Teacher of the Year before becoming the head of the science department. He then moved on to become an administrator for and principal at various schools within the district. Surviving are his wife, Susan McLaughlin Belz; a son, John Robert Belz and his wife Michele; two daughters, Erin Belz Houlihan and husband Damien, and Meghan Belz; two brothers, James Patrick Belz and his wife Elaine J. Belz; and Thomas Gregory Belz; and two grandchildren, John Anthony and Juliana Nicole Belz. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Monday at 11:30 a.m. followed by interment at Old Tennent Cemetery, Tennent. Memorial donations to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
