Obituary of James J. Cullen
James J. Cullen, 88, of Jackson Township died Monday, January 25, 2016 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. He was born in New York City and had resided in Freehold Township for 32 years before moving to Jackson Township.
He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1946.
He was a construction supervisor Dic Concrete Corporation, New York City and a member of Metal Lathers Reinforcing Ironworkers Local No, 46, New York City.
Mr. Cullen was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold, a member of Freehold Council No. 1672, Knights of Columbus, a former member of the Knights of Columbus, New York City; and a former member of the Holy Name Society of St. Rose of Lima Church. He was a past president of the St. Rose of Lima Basketball League. He was an organizer of the Freehold Punt, Pass, and Kick program and the St. Rose of Lima Track and Field Day.
He was predeceased by his wife, Helene M. Cullen, in 2009. He was also predeceased by a sister-in-law, Margaret Cullen.
Surviving are four sons and daughters-in-law, James J. “Jay” Jr., and Barbara Cullen, Robert and Donna Cullen, Brian and Susan Cullen, and Michael and Jacquie Cullen; two daughters, Cathy Cullen and Carolyn Cullen; two brothers and s sister-in-law, Robert and Bernard and Bridget Cullen; six grandchildren, Shawn and fiancé Sheira, Scott and fiancé Amanda, Kimberley, Robbie, Ryan, and Nicole; two great grandchildren, Mason and Madison; and seven nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, Freehold on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
