Obituary of Barbara Gunther Reed

Barbara Gunther Reed, 67, of Colts Neck Township died Sunday January 2, 2011 at home. She was born in Neptune Township and was a lifelong resident of Colts Neck Township. She was a customer service information specialist for the State of New Jersey, Freehold, and dedicated score keeper for the Colts Neck Men’s Basketball League. She as a member of the Colts Neck Reformed Church where she was a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Colts Neck Fire Company No. 1 Auxiliary where she had served as president, vice president, and corresponding secretary. Mrs. Reed was a class mother in the Colts Neck Schools where she also served in the school art program. She was the student participation chairperson at the Colts Neck Fair. Her husband, James F. Reed, died in 1988. She was also predeceased by her parents, Harold “Jake” Gunther, Sr. and Dorothy Decher Gunther. Surviving are three sons, Frank A. Mohler, III, James F. Reed, Jr., his wife Stephanie and a grandson, James F. Reed, III; Dennis H. Reed and his fiancé Kathy; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold Gunther, Jr. and Susan Gunther; her beloved best friend Judy Baillie and boyfriend Paul Hanisch. Barbara is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Colts Neck Reformed Church, Colts Neck on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Atlantic Cemetery, Colts Neck. Memorial donations to the Colts Neck Fire Company No. 1 Auxiliary would be appreciated.
