Obituary of Michael Joseph Flynn
Michael Joseph Flynn, 79, of Englishtown died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Reformed Church Home, Old Bridge. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he lived in Spotswood prior to moving to Englishtown 50 years ago.
Mr. Flynn and his late wife were the owners and operators of Maria’s Coffee Shop, Englishtown. Prior to that, he was an iron worker for Local No. 40, New York, New York, and Local No. 399, New Jersey.
He was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Flynn was a member of Prince of Peace Council No. 5903, Knights of Columbus.
Son of the late Michael Joseph Flynn and Mary Williams Flynn, he was also predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Maria Chartschenko Flynn in 2003; and his sister, Jean McGuire.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Eileen Flynn, Manalapan Township, and Daniel and Danielle Flynn, Pines Lake; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Mike Lewis, Loveland, Colorado, Barbara and Bernie O’Brien, Pine Beach, and Patricia and Bill Mollema, Spotswood; ten grandchildren, Kevin, Bryan and Michael Lewis, Katie and Bernard O’Brien, and Michael, Connor, Madeline, Riley and Samantha Flynn; and his sisters, Mary McCarthy, Loretta Mulligan, Audrey Kives, and Diane Scheller.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown on Friday at 10:00 A.M. Inurnment will follow at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold.
