Obituary of Alexander Levchuk
Alexander Levchuk, 91, of Millstone Township died Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Mr. Levchuk was born in New York City and resided in Freehold before moving to Millstone Township.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in France, Germany, Italy, and North Africa. He attained the rank of First Lieutenant.
Mr. Levchuk was a graduate of Freehold High School and New York University in 1940. He graduated from New York University Law School in 1946.
He was associated with Parsons, Labrecque, Canzon and Combs, Red Bank, where he met his beloved wife of sixty years, June. He was formerly associated with Barkalow and McGowan, Freehold and opened his own practice at 30 West Main Street in Freehold. He served as a municipal court judge in Freehold from 1961 until 1972.
Mr. Levchuk was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Freehold; a former member of the Western Monmouth Y.M.C.A. Board of Directors; a member of the Freehold Township Lions Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4374, Freehold.
Mr. Levchuk was a gentleman farmer and accomplished horseman. He was passionate about the outdoors, having planted thousands of trees and flowers on his farm in Millstone Township. In addition to practicing law, he continued as an avid reader of both history and Russian literature. His enthusiasm for both the New York Giants and Knicks was abiding. During the past two years Mr. Levchuk had begun writing a collection of short stories that he planned to publish upon completion.
A son, Thomas Joseph Levchuk, died in 1959.
Surviving are his wife, Julia Pettit Levchuk; a son and daughter-in-law, Andrew G. and Paulette Levchuk; two daughters, Karen A.Levchuk and Lisa Levchuk; and two grandchildren, Alexander P. and Michael J. Levchuk.
Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Monday, January 24th from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 33 Throckmorton Street, Freehold on Tuesday, January 25th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York City.
