Obituary of Frances R. Calabria

Frances R. Calabria, 79, of Manalapan Township died peacefully on Monday, February 7, 2011 at home. Mrs. Calabria was born in Jersey City and resided in Manalapan for the past 50 years. She was a graduate of Monmouth University where she earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees. Mrs. Calabria was a kindergarten teacher in the Raymond E. Voorhees School, Old Bridge Township for 30 years before her retirement. Prior to that she was a teacher in the Robertsville School (one-room school house), Marlboro Township, and the Manalapan-Englishtown Schools. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church, Englishtown. Mrs. Calabria was a volunteer for Project Linus and the United Way of Monmouth County Baby Bundles where she crocheted blankets for infants, and a member of the Manalapan Township Senior Citizens Club. Her husband, Joseph Pasquale Calabria died in 1961. She was also predeceased by a grandson, Sean Hayes. Surviving are a son, Pasquale Calabria; a daughter and son-in-law, MaryAnne and James J. Hayes; a sister, Gloria Suydam and her husband Forman; five grandchildren: Joseph Calabria and his wife, Jennifer, Andrew Calabria, James P. Hayes, III and his wife Jacqui, Tracy Hayes, and Sandy Hayes and her husband Danny Wu; six great grandchildren: James IV, Julianna, Jadilyn, and Jacob Hayes; and Joseph and John Calabria. Visiting hours will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, NJ on Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy R. C. Church, 58 Main Street, Englishtown, NJ on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, 299 Freehold-Englishtown Road, Freehold, NJ. A repast to follow.
