Obituary of John Thompkins

John Thompkins, 72, of Lakewood died Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Fountain View Care Center, Lakewood. Mr. Thompkins was born in Bloomingdale, Georgia. He was a U. S. Army veteran. He was a mover for Ideal Way Movers, Lakewood. Prior to that he served as a medic in the Army and police officer in Florida. Mr. Thompkins was a member of St. James A.M.E. Church, Manalapan Township. He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Thompkins and a sister, Margaret Thompkins Surviving are his wife, Gladys Conover Thompkins; two sons, James Thompkins and John Thompkins and his wife Gina, all of Lakewood; four daughters, Margaret Barnes and her husband Morris, Newport News, Virginia, and Theresa Bailey and her husband Martin, and Faye and Ivy Thompkins, all of Lakewood; two sisters, Vergie Brown, and Minnie Jackson; 12 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. The viewing will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Tuesday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. The interment will be held at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold
