Obituary of Frank E. Gibson
Frank E. Gibson, 92, Freehold, peacefully passed on Sunday, May 22, 2011. He was born to Frank and Ann Gibson and was a lifelong resident of Freehold Borough. Frank was a 1942 graduate of the University of Notre Dame where he remained a loyal and devoted alumnus. He served in WWII as a Lieutenant in the US Navy aboard the USS Farragut where he was awarded 7 battle stars. After returning from the Navy, he joined his father and brothers in the family business, Frank C. Gibson, Inc. Mechanical Contractors until his retirement in 1984.
Throughout his life Frank was an active member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and local Freehold community. He served as Mayor of Freehold Borough, President of the Freehold Borough Board of Education, volunteer fireman and former secretary of the Freehold Fire Department, Exalted Ruler of the Elks, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the American Legion. Frank also served 41 years as a library Commissioner for the Monmouth County Library System. He was named ‘Man of the Year’ by the Notre Dame Club of the Jersey Shore and was State President of the Mechanical Contractors Association. He began riding a motorcycle at age 61 and road throughout the country with the Raritan Road Runners.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Beatrice Federici Gibson; his sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Barbara, Freehold Township; Dennis and Dorothy, Colts Neck; Kevin and Janine, Freehold Township; Robert, Vineland and Frank, West Long Branch; and daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Daniel Pasquinucci, Freehold Township; Ann and Rudy Rote, Rockville, MD; 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his two brothers Leonard and Roger.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 26 from 7-9 pm and Friday, May 27, from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 28th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Freehold at 10 am followed by an interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery.
