Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Fitzsimmons generations on the passing of thier patriarch. Mr. Fitz had a great way of making you stand up a little straighter and then make you laugh all in the same moment when you were with him. We will miss him.

We were both saddened to hear of John's passing but were also consoled to know that he is surrounded by the glory of Easter after a long and remarkable life of service. John and I grew up in Ascension Parish, went to Barrytown together, entered the Novitiate and graduated from Catholic University in 1954. We were friends,"groupies" and Brothers. John's journey continued through his life with Rita and his growing family. His service to them, his God and his Church over many decades is a testament to the quality of his life. Morris West writes well (of John)in "Shoes of the Fisherman": "Yesterday I met a whole man. It is a rare experience, but always an illuminating and enobling one..." Thank you Rita and your family for sharing John with us!

I was very sad to hear of Mr. Fitz's passing. I was a student at Freehold Twp HS (class of 87) while he was Vice Principle. I was President of St Rose of Lima CYO and friends with Brian during our high school years. I just wanted your family to know there were a few educators from my high school days that I still remember well to this day. Mr. Fitz was one of them. I am so very sorry for your loss. I hope and pray your family will be comforted not only by the Holy Spirit but also comforted (and proud) in knowing how many lives were positively impacted by Mr. Fitz and hope you will continue to smile and hopefully even laugh at the countless of memories you have in your lives with this great man. God Bless and know all of you are in my thoughts and prayers. Alex

I first became acquainted with John Fitzsimmons about thirty years ago when we were both assistant principals in the Freehold Regional High School District. Over the years our families became intertwined on a variety of occasions, and we began to understand the depth of John’s religious convictions and the life he led by example. There are few people today who demonstrate the love, understanding, and courage that John epitomized. Although we will miss John’s humor, kindness, and benevolence, we are all better human beings because of his profound influence upon us, not in large grandiose ways, but rather in the small, everyday events that helped us to discover delight in living. John’s life and work continue in each of us who knew him and who were inspired by his devotion and compassion. We extend our deepest sympathy to Rita Claire and the entire Fitzsimmons family. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Pam, Jack, and the Szabo family

Dear Rita Claire and Family, I was so saddened to hear of the passing of John. He truly was a man of faith, compassion, sensitivity and mercy. My experiences working with him at CBA enabled me to see a family man who loved his wife, children, and his God as he ministered each day to the men of the Academy. He was someone embued with the spirit of de la Salle touching the hearts of each of his counselees. He was firm, honest and caring. As a colleague he helped me so many times with his keen sense of humor and his quiet reflective manner encouraging me to calm down before I jumped into the fire from the frying pan. Many a day the two of us would laugh at how strong willed we both were yet never admitting that we might be just a little stubborn. I know that each of you have so many wonderful memories of this giant of a man I and so many others are so very grateful to You,Rita Claire and the boys for allowing him to share his many gifts and talents with us. Know that this simple, loving faithfilled man remains in our prayers and thoughts, as you all do. St john baptist de la Salle..pray for us Live Jesus in our hearts.. Forever Sincerely jack and mary brennan

Our deepest condolences. Mr. Fitz was vice principal to our whole family at FTHS! He was firm but kind, always willing to listen and help whenever help was needed. Advice, a corny joke just to make you smile, or a warning to keep you in check, he was always looking out for us! He will be missed dearly! Our prayers are with his family.

We both are deeply saddened by the loss of a great man. He was very unassuming and never lauded his accomplishments over anyone. He was an extraordinarily down to earth person with a deep faith in God and a true love for his family. He will live on in John Edward, Kevin, Mike, Brian and Neal and those 13 grandchildren which he brought into the Catholic Faith at Baptism. It was a privilege to have known him. To all the Fitzsimmons Family I leave you with the last line from the movie Brian's Song...Do not remember how he died, but How he lived..How he did LIVE!!
