Obituary of Clarence Talmage Murphy
Clarence Talmage Murphy, Jr., 94, of Freehold Township died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Bartley Nursing and Healthcare Center, Jackson Township. He was born in Freehold and was a lifelong resident.
He served in the U.S. Army, First Infantry Division during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in the European Theater of Operations and the Combat Infantry Badge.
He was a postal carrier for the Freehold Post Office before his retirement. Prior to that Mr. Murphy was a firefighter at Earle Naval Weapons Station, Colts Neck Township
He was an exempt member of the Good Will Hook and Ladder Company of the Freehold Fire Department and a former member of the Order of Redmen.
His wife, Mary Ella Murphy, died in 2003.
Surviving are three nephews, Charles Martin and wife Asmati, Richard Allen Martin and wife Mary Lynn, and Lawrence Martin and wife Linda.
“Murph”, as he was affectionately known, enjoyed spending time with his dog Sonny.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday at 11:00 followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery, Freehold. Memorial donations to the Freehold Fire Department Memorial Fund, 49 West Main Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
