Obituary of Sophie M. Celano
Sophie M. Celano, 86, of Howell Township died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at CentraState Medical Center, Freehold Township. Mrs. Celano was born in Jersey City and was raised in Hoboken.
She was a graduate of Demarest High School, Hoboken.
Mrs. Celano was bookkeeper for Heritage Bank, East Brunswick before her retirement.
She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, Freehold and a longtime member of Court St. Rose of Lima N0. 737, Catholic Daughters of the Americas where she served as treasurer and financial secretary. She was also a member of the Rosary Society of St. Rose of Lima Church and a volunteer at CentraState Medical Center.
She was an avid bowler and enjoyed ceramics, arts and crafts, sewing, and crocheting.
Her husband, Charles Celano, died in 1963. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Julianne Treadaway.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Charles F. and Michele Celano; a daughter, Clare M. Celano; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Visiting will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church on Friday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington. Memorial donations to the Scleroderma Foundation, 300 Rosewood Drive, Suite 105, Danvers, Mass. 01923 would be appreciated.
