Obituary of Lydia Topp
Lydia Topp, 98, of Manalapan, formerly of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2011. Born in Dormettingen, Germany, Lydia came to this country in 1937. She worked as a Beautician on Madison Avenue in New York. Lydia married her beloved Albert in 1944 and settled in Astoria, NY. They shared a passion for tennis and golf. She and her husband belonged to the Tennis Division of the New York Sport Club in the Bronx. After retirement, they moved to Whiting, NJ and continued to play golf and tennis until their late 80’s. Lydia (Oma) was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She always gave willingly of her time. She was always ready to babysit, and the family looked forward to her schnitzel, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach.
Lydia was predeceased by her beloved husband Albert, in 2004, five days before their 60th Anniversary; her brothers Joseph, Anton, Karl and Ludwig and her sisters Emmy and Trude. She is survived by her son, Richard Topp and wife, Letty of Manalapan, NJ and their children, Carrie and husband, Brian Ruegger, and Michael and wife, Jennifer Topp, all of Freehold, NJ. She is also survived by three loving great grandchildren, Michael and Emily Ruegger and Wynne Topp, and her sisters, Rosle Hoch and Lina Berner of Dormettingen, Germany. In addition, she has numerous nephews and nieces in the US and Germany, including Karl Topp of New Rochelle, NY.
Family and friends are invited to visit from 4 to 8pm Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Higgins Memorial Home, 20 Center Street, Freehold, NJ. Cremation will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Englishtown-Manalapan First Aid Squad, PO Box 294, Manalapan, NJ 07726, would be appreciated.
